The district level livestock and milking competitions being held at Fazilka and SAD Nagar today came to a colorful conclusion wherein at Fazilka the Minister of Health, Punjab Chaudhary Surjit Kumar Jyani distributed prizes to the winners and at SAS Nagar the MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra felicitated the winners. In the competitions held at SAS Nagar, HF cow created record of this year in district level competitions by giving maximum milk yield in a day.Addressing the gathering at Fazilka, the Minister for Health Surjit KIumar Jyani said that the state government has initiated a special program to improve the breed of Sahiwal cows in state. This would lead to the indigenous variety of Sahiwal giving better yield and its milk's demand will increase due to various advantages. He said that this variety of cow was indigenous, its milk contains cancer fighting elements and its more adapted to Indian climatic conditions than the foreign bred cows. He added that with the global temperatures rising, the Sahiwal cow was best adapted for Indian climatic conditions. He said that due to this advantage, the Punjab government had initiated project to improve the variety of Sahiwal cows. Under the project, best quality of semen would be provided for artificial insemination in cows.  

In the competitions held at Fazilka more than 1500 animals were registered who participated in 53 events and won Rs 5.5 lac cash prizes. In the Sahiwal cow competition village Kular's Basant Sonnarain's cow scored first place, cow of Om PRakash from Dhinganwali scored second place and that of Ghulam Khan from Chabariyan wala secured third place. The horses' and camels' dances remained the center of attraction.On the other hand during competitions held at SAS Nagar, the MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumarja said that to get out of agrarian crisis, the Punjab's farmers will have to adopt agri allied businesses. Since the conventional crops were no more brisk business making venture, crop diversification and allied businesses have proven to be good sources of income. During the today's events, he distributed Rs 5.50 lacs cash prizes to 150 animal rearers. Speaking at the event Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said the annual events of livestock and milking competitions were showing good results. These events promote healthy competition as well as motivate the people to take up animal rearing.The Mr Sarvdeep Singh OSD to Minister for Animal Husbandry, joint director animal husbandry Mr Amarjit Singh, dy director Mr Anil Kumar Sharma were also present.On the concluding day today dog races and horses' dance remained center of attraction. During the fair SAD Nagar's village DHarak Kalan's farmer Gian Singh's HF cow yielded 56.865 kgs of milk in a day creating state record of district level milking competitions.
