Kashmir valley witnesses’ augmentation of walnut production and enriched the quality as the weather shows affirmative signs during the harvesting season of this year.The Walnuts of Kashmir is widely famous for its taste, and superior quality. These nuts are deeply demanded by the people across the globe. According to the growers, the walnut production this year has increased as compared to last year due to favourable weather conditions. The growers now will get good returns due to the production of good quality walnuts.Kashmir enjoys its status as the major contributor of total walnut production in the country.
Sitting on the wayside of famed Dal Lake, A grower of walnuts while having conversation with 5 Dariya News Senior Correspondent said that the probability are on high this year as the growers suffered a heavy loss in past years flash floods. Walnut trees are plentifully grown in Kupwara and Shopian region. Previously Shopian was the largest walnut growing region in Kashmir and but now Kupwara has overtaken Shopian and acclaimed as the largest Walnut producing area.Pertinently, The Horticulture Sector is a major contributor to the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides walnuts, other fruits such as apples, pears,and almonds are the major commercial crops of the state.
