Controversies and our Punjabi industry often go hand in hand. Numerous unusual instances of altercations, disputes, and controversies occurred in 2022. There were some significant controversies this year that shocked the whole Punjabi public.
So let's take a look at the top eight controversial stories that everyone is talking about.
G Khan
During the occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi visarjan program in the Janakpuri area, G Khan has sung his most viral song, Peg Motte Motte. Following this, a significant altercation between two Hindu factions over the controversy surrounding Punjabi musician G Khan broke out in Ludhiana's historic Sangla Wala Shivala temple. Khan was detained for singing "indecent and offensive songs." Not only leaders but many people showed their objections against the vulgar songs on pious occasions.
Kanwar Grewal
The song "Rihaee" by popular Punjabi artist Kanwar Grewal, which demands the liberation of Sikh prisoners, was removed from YouTube in July 2022. Moreover, Sukhbir Singh Badal stated in a statement that Kanwar Grewal has not done anything more than use poetry to draw attention to this issue and demand that history books not be changed. Under no circumstances does this warrant a ban, he continued.
Ranjit Bawa
Ranjit Bawa who never misses any chance to vocalize his emotions. He has earlier spoken his heart out when expressed his anger over the portrayal of Punjab in the film GoodLuck Jerry starring Janhvi Kapoor. Bawa vented his resentment about the film on Twitter. He claimed that Punjab was once again depicted as a heroin addict in "Good Luck Jerry." If Punjab will simply be depicted as a drug state, he questioned.
Also, a couple of days ago, IT raids at Ranjit Bawa’s house. The operation was to tally the information disclosed by the singer about his wealth and earnings.

Sidhu Moose Wala
Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala who is always considered as the parallel of controversies has been making headlines after his demise also. Two of his posthumous songs have been released. First ‘SYL’ and other ‘Vaar’, both the songs have created a huge impact on the public as well as the government. Moreover, SYL was taken down from Youtube whereas some lyrics of Vaar have been objectified by a few communities.
Mankirt Aulakh
Not one, but Mankirt Aulakh’s name came to the limelight for the two different cases. First, his name was involved in the murder case of Sidhu Moose Wala, and after that, a case was filed in the Chandigarh district court. It has been done for his song '8 Rafalan' in which he was accused of using derogatory language for lawyers. Moreover, many FIRs were lodged against the singers who glorify gun culture and remarks derogatory statements against someone.
Jenny Johal
Jenny Johal, a Punjabi singer who had been making headlines in the Sidhu Moose Wala Murder case trial for justice, has found herself in the middle of a controversy after YouTube blocked her most recent song owing to copyright violation. The song, titled "Letter to CM," has stirred up controversy in Punjab politics since the singer addresses the Punjab Chief Minister directly and poses several challenging issues regarding the Punjabi government's response to the murdered musician.
Harnaaz Sandhu
Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu who made her debut in the Punjabi industry with the film ‘Bai Ji Kuttange’ has been indulged in controversy with the same film. Sandhu has been sued by actor-producer Upasana Singh for failing to uphold her responsibilities to the latter's production of Bai Ji Kuttange. Sandhu denied being a part of promotions, though the team has postponed the release date of the film in the respect that Harnaaz will be a part of promotions. But she never did. So, this act of hers made her involved in a court case.
Karan Aujla & Kambi Rajpuria
It is not new for Geetan Di Machine aka Karan Aujla to be named in a controversy. And in 2022, his name was involved in many cases, but what grabbed our attention is when Karan asked his followers to send him the recipe for Rara Chicken. To which fans thought that he seemingly shot at Kambi. As Kambi wrote on his Instagram that he believes in self-promotion and not in stolen titles. And a couple of days before this incident, Karan Aujla’s song Sheesha was removed from Youtube due to copyright claims.
