Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal  Hon'ble Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha during his visit to Province of British Columbia (Canada) had interactions with Deputy Speaker Mr. Douglas A. Horne ,  MLA Surrey-Newton Mr. Harry Bains and Mrs Jane Thornthwaite MLA North Vancouver-Seymour.Dr. Atwal said that the Parliament and the State Legislatures today were not law-making bodies alone. They had become multi-dimensional institutions performing a variety of roles.Dwelling on the role of elected representatives, Dr. Atwal said that as the elected popular representative, it was the duty of every member to concentrate on highlighting peoples' problems effectively in Legislative debates. 

Not only this, but the representatives should make the Government of the day aware of the about the problems of their respective constituencies like-- Healthcare, Education, Social security and get the Government to frame policies to address them. Dr. Atwal further stated that the legislative assembly acts as a unifying factor between the Government and the people.Dr. Atwal while sharing his views laid stress on taking revolutionary measures for optimally utilizing the parliamentary processes and devices for delivery of good governance so that the matters of public importance are put to their logical conclusion.On this occasion Mr. Douglas A. Horne Deputy Speaker thanked Dr. Atwal for paying a visit to British Columbia and sharing his valuable views on parliamentary and legislative assembly procedure. Dr. Atwal presented a Model of Golden Temple to Mr. Douglas.
