The Minister for Revenue Javid Mustafa Mir informed the Legislative Council that a project report for installation of submersible dewatering pumps has been prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 33 Crore as a long term measure which will be projected for World Bank funding.The Minister was replying to a calling attention notice by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri in the Legislative Council today.The Minister said that comprehensive drainage projects are also being also formulated for water logging flood prone areas for funding under Externally Aided Projects.The Minister said that due to untimely heavy rainfall, snowfall inconvenience was caused to the people on various accounts which also include water logging and power cuts. He said that the Municipal institutions used their available men and machinery to clear the lanes, by-lanes and drains for minimizing the inconvenience caused to the public. He said necessary measures were also taken by dewatering of water logged areas and desilting of drains for smooth flow of storm water by Municipal Corporation and Urban Local Bodies within their jurisdiction.Mir said that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has kept all the 76 permanent dewatering stations operational round the clock in order to avoid inconvenience to the general public due to over flowing of drains and water logging. He further said that three dewatering stations of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) 50 diesel driven pumps werer also pressed into service in and around Srinagar city for dewatering. (CNS)
