Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Sunday said that despite hurdles they will carry relief and rehabilitation program for flood victims. In a function organized at Hyderpora, Geelani Sunday distributed relief cheques worth Rs five lakh and kits containing essential commodities among 50 flood affected families in the phase 12 of cash distribution to the flood victims. In a statement a spokesman of the Hurriyat (G) said Geelani  gave away cheque for Rs 10000 and a relief kit to each of the more 50 flood affected families of district Srinagar and  Bandipora.“We were asked to stop this relief work,” said Geelani. He criticized state authorities for their ‘negligence and uncaring attitude’ towards flood hit families and said that a police officer in communiqué has asked them to stop this relief and rehabilitation work.

He lamented at state authorities, and while reiterating his pledge to take relief work and reach to every flood hit family, Geelani said, “They do not want us to come to the rescue of those hit by recent floods and my nation should consider that devastating floods snatched everything, our households and belongings and people are facing immense hardships and miseries. People lack shelter and other amenities of life.”While criticizing state administration he said, “It was their duty to assign priority to this issue but instead keeping in view their political interests the Election Commission of India announced the elections in flood hit valley. It were the people of state that they came to the rescue of their nation but it is highly deplorable that authorities and police is creating hurdles and impediments.”

“We will carry our mission,” he pledged and urged people to understand the folly being played with their sentiments and political aspirations.

“We are being deceived and this is the reason that our people cast their votes for employment, construction work, and for other facilities of life. Vote is a precious and entrusted entity and if this is bargained against one’s self interest, it amounts to breach of trust and betrayal with the blood of martyrs,” he said and added that before casting vote it is required to think its value and the credentials of candidate.

Geelani in his statement while referring to heavy contingent of forces in nook and corner of state, said, “Their presence has already put a question mark to our identity, religious beliefs, our morals, culture and civilization.”While reiterating his appeal for election boycott on December 2, Geelani said, “We should never join our hands with collaborators that authenticate forced control of India over Kashmir. People should register their protest against these shame elections and hegemony of India. We are committed to the election   boycott and it will continue despite arrest of pro-freedom leaders and activists.”

Geelani alleged that state administration has unleashed a reign of terror by arresting youths and party activists ahead of the ‘so-called’ elections. Terming mass arrests as unjustified and unlawful, he said, “Police arrested four thousand youth and students and in Shopian they arrested 60 students.”Meanwhile, the statement said that police arrested Mohammad Shaban Khan,Tehsil President Sopore, Mufti Ab Ahad (Tarzoo) Meraj u Din Naiykoo, Nazir Ahmad Khawja,Perwaiz Ahmad, Ab Hamid Tantray, Idress Jan(Kupwara) Ali Mohammad Sheikh,Mohammud Shafi Mir, Adil Hussain Kupwara, Khursheed Hussain Sheikh(Bumai) Aashiq Ali Baba,(Sopore)Mohammad Shafi Bhat and Myaser Ahmad Bhat.
