Residents of Lalru and nearby areas were disturbed by the foul smell of water of Jharmal river due to mixing of waste water from village ponds in to this river near Samlehri village. As such, there was a possibility of spreading disease. But now, under Mission Tandrust Punjab, with the joint efforts of Punjab Pollution Control Board and Drainage Department, the river is cleaned upto the bridge on national highway and now with the controlled flow of water there is no foul smell.Explaining this Executive Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board Mohali Sh. Loveleen Kumar Dubey said that the water in river jharmal was getting filthy due to mixing of waste water from ponds of nearby villages and was generating foul smell. As such, a lot of complaints were being received at office of Chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board Sh. Kahan Singh Pannu. In this regard a meeting with nearby industry owners were conducted. Then a joint meeting with was conducted with Executive Engineer Punjab Pollution Control Board and Executive Engineer Drainage Department Davinder Singh and then, target was set for cleaning of river from Panacea Biotech upto the bridge near national highway and the silt accumulated in the river bed was also removed which facilitated controlled flow of water.Sh. Dubey said that this initiative has provided a big relief to the resident of this region. He said that Punjab Pollution Control Board is doing continuous efforts for implementation of guidelines of National Green Tribunal and also generating awareness among farmers to not to burn the stubble in field. On the other hand it is also working towards preventions of industrial pollution and ensuring stipulated standards of air and water pollution. He said that best possible efforts will be ensured for cleanliness of environment and implementation of Mission Tandrust Punjab in district.
