Kiran Choudhry, Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party, has demanded a high-level probe into the conversion of IT land in SEZs across the state for commercial use resulting in huge revenue loss to the exchequer and rendering the IT Industry unviable in the state, a fact admitted in so many words by the Finance and Excise and Taxation Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu.In a statement issued here today, the former Excise and Taxation Minister said the serious issue which smacks of a huge scam, should be thoroughly investigated to find out the SEZs where the land use was changed, at whose behest, and for what consideration, and how much did each such permission cost the exchequer. “Merely directing the Revenue Department, as has been done by Capt Abhimanyu, to take necessary action in the matter will not do”, she remarked.“Not only those behind this scam should be exposed, nailed and brought to book, the probe should also put an estimate to the loss to the state exchequer and make those found responsible pay up. The matter assumes gravity to the extent it came in the way of IT industry coming to the state and with potential loss of jobs to hundreds of youths”, she added.
