DDC Pulwama reviews functioning of RDD

The District Development Commissioner today convened a meeting to review implementation of various schemes being executed by Rural Development Department (RDD) in the district.Assistant Commissioner Development, Joint Director Planning, District Panchayat Officer, BDOs, Assistant Executive Engineers and other concerned attended the meeting.The ACD informed the meeting that under MGNREGA, out of the approved labour budget of Rs 31.91 crore, the work done liability is 10.6 crore. It was also said that out of the total number of 42,998 job card  holders, 33,567 are active and 1.5 lakh man days have been generated so far. He further said that out of 1349 works taken up, 300 have been completed so far.While reviewing the status of the projects taken up under convergence, the District Development Commissioner directed the officers to work with added zeal so that the set targets are achieved well in time. He said schemes like MNREGA and IAY are meant to create durable assets in the far flung areas and provide livelihood to the downtrodden. The meeting also discussed threadbare the progress made under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Grameen) while DDC directed the officers to expedite the process to achieve the targets.

While reviewing the progress under Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), DDC said the department had done a great work especially in the areas of water conservation and prevention of soil erosion. District Panchayat Officer said that the department under Swatch Bharat Mission has taken 11 villages to make them Open Defecation Free while two blocks Pulwama and Pampore will be made ODF free blocks towards the end of this current financial year and the execution of same has already been started.DDC also reviewed the National Rural Livelihood Mission scheme. It was informed that the basic aim of NRLM is to mitigate the poverty among the rural people and also empower the women folk by engaging them into Self Help Groups and provide financial support to start their own economic activity by virtue of which they can turn out to be entrepreneurs of their own world.DDC said the basic aim of the MGNREGA is to provide job to unemployed, unskilled youth of the state but simultaneously the same human resource is used to create durable assets in the village and this year the government has laid stress on the building road connectivity in rural areas and doing flood protection works.He directed the Assistant Commissioner Development Pulwama to speed up the expenditure in the identified projects. He asked the officers to put in extra efforts for judicious and effective utilization of funds besides removing bottlenecks hindering developmental works.DDC also directed the officers to ensure expeditious execution of developmental works to extend desired benefits to the people. He also asked them for keeping a strict check over quality of works, adding that efforts should be made to create sustainable assets catering to area-specific developmental needs.
