Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, Thursday evening chaired a meeting to review the situation arising out of heavy precipitation in the Kashmir Division.The meeting also discussed measures being taken to tackle water logging and preparedness to deal with any kind of exigency. It was informed that SMC has deployed 120 dewatering pumps, besides 31 fire tenders have been put in operation in various water-logged areas of the valley. The I&FC Department has deployed its men and machinery in all valley districts and has distributed 12.60 lakh sand bags in flood prone areas to augment flood protection bunds.On the occasion, the Div Com directed the concerned to ensure additional dumping of sand bags alongwith deployment of men and machinery at all the vital locations in the division.He also directed all the Deputy Commissioners of the Valley to establish control rooms at their respective areas of jurisdiction for the convenience of the people. He also asked them to activate Disaster Management Committees for their optimum use and maintain close coordination among the concerned Departments for effective response to any emergency.  He asked the DCs to arrange buses and boats for evacuation of people in flood prone areas to safer locations.While reviewing health care measures, he asked the Director Health Services Kashmir to ensure all the health institutions remain functional round the clock with sufficient stock of medicines.The meeting also reviewed availability of essential commodities and power supply scenario in Kashmir valley.Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Chief Engineers of I&FC, PDD, PHE & R&B, IGP traffic, Director Health, Managing Director SKIMS, Commissioner SMC, Fire & Emergency service and other concerned attended the meeting.
