Department of Tourism Kashmir Saturday awarded certificates to the scores of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel and adventurers who had attended the Rope Rescue Training Program at Srinagar on November 17 and November 18, 2016.The department of tourism organized the course the in collaboration with Allied Safety Equipment Pvt. Limited at department’s artificial rock at Nowgam.Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah gave away certificates at Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar.Speaking on the occasion, Mahmood Shah stressed on the need to organize more training programs for SDRF staff including mountaineering, swimming, skiing and other adventure related courses. He said the state like Jammu and Kashmir should have available manpower with required skills and expertise in handling the crisis that can arise from disasters.“We organized the training program to impart skills of rope rescue to the SDRF staff.
SDRF is the main manpower available with the state that is used during any disasters. If they are given advanced training and exposure to newly introduced equipments, their help can prove effective in mitigating the impact of the crisis,” said Shah.Shah said Department of tourism is ready to provide training to people in rescue training programs.During the programme, the SDRF was introduced to new equipments and usages, knots and rigging set up, ascending and descending techniques, pick off rescue techniques, high angle rescue techniques etc. The training were provided by expert team from Mumbai led by Wallambok Lyngdoh.The participants expressed their delight over the training they received at Nawgam and hoped that such more prorammes are organized for enhancing their skills. Director Tourism Kashmir assured them that he would take up the matter with their higher authorities so that more such advanced training programs are organized for them in future.
