DGP Vaid takes stock of arrangements for RD functions, ask cops to be extra alert

In order to make Republic Day Celebrations smooth and peaceful, Director General of Police (DGP), Dr S P Vaid, has asked forces to remain extra alert and step-up the security of venues, besides vital installations.Dr Vaid was interacting with police officers through Video Conferencing at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. Officers interacted with the DGP through video-conferencing; include IGP Kashmir, Range DIsGP and District Superintendents of Police of Valley and Jammu.Dr. Vaid asked the officers to monitor the implementation of security arrangements, already put in place and ensure round the clock patrolling, besides naka checking in sensitive areas. He said that a vigil needs to be maintained continuously to keep an eye on the activities of bad elements. Surprise checking in the border areas and on National Highways also needs to be beefed up to thwart any nefarious design of elements inimical to peace.

DGP said that checking points should be set up in coordination with other security agencies at the entry points and areas around the venues to be sensitized, particularly MAM Stadium Jammu and Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where main RD functions will be held. He said that the security arrangements should be reviewed by the senior officers to foil any attempt by the anti-national elements to create law and order problem. A high alert should be maintained around the vital installations to ensure their security, he added.

Dr. Vaid asked the officers to brief the personnel deployed for security duties to be polite towards people attending RD celebrations. However they should be very careful and sensitive towards their duties. He said that action plan should be implemented in letter and spirit for making the celebrations across the State successful and secure. It   should be kept in mind that common people are not put to any inconvenience during the celebrations, said Dr. Vaid.

Divisional Commissioner, Mr. Baseer Ahmed Khan also apprised he DGP about the arrangements put in place by civil administration for the celebrations in Valley.DGP also sought reports from the officers regarding preparedness in view of the weather predictions for the coming days. He asked the officers to keep the men and machinery alert to meet any kind of eventuality without compromising the security arrangements for RD celebrations. He said that JKP has to respond quickly to any call for assistance of people in case of inclement weather.Among others, the conference was attended by ADsGP, VK Singh and Dilbag Singh, IsGP, SJM Gillani, AG Mir, Yoginder Koul, SL Sharma, SA Watali, MA Ganai, Surinder Kumar and Johny William, DIsGP, AA Wani, Nisar Ahmed, GH Bhat and Uttam Chand, AIsGP, Dr. Haseeb Mughal, Kulbir Singh and BA Shah, SSsP, Sunil Kumar and AK Angral, all district Superintendents of Police of Valley and Jammu and Dy.SP IMS (PHQ), Musadiq Basu.
