The state unit of CPI-M on Wednesday urged the PDP-BJP government to come out immediately with a comprehensive power supply policy to cope with intermittent and unscheduled power cuts during winter.“Government needs to prepare a policy which ensures reforms in power generation, its transmission and distribution process,” CPI-M state secretary Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami told news agency CNS.Expressing anguish over the erratic power supply in Kashmir Valley, Tarigami said people of the Valley have been put to great inconveniences due to poor and deteriorated power distribution.Such a situation repeats itself during every winter indicating “non-seriousness” of the government towards power reforms.Tarigami said the people were being taken for granted with respect to providing basic amenities of which electricity was an important component.

The demand of return of power projects from NHPC is from last so many years. Even it has been backed by recommendations of the working groups appointed by the former Prime Minister as well as PM's high level task force on J&K but unfortunately only discussions about it take place without any positive results,” he said adding that the return of power projects from NHPC is in the Agenda of Alliance of the incumbent government and the Chief Minister must take serious note of it.He lamented that like other parts of Valley, almost all the villages of his constituency have been reeling under darkness. “Government has miserably failed to give respite to the people,” he said adding that this situation of drastic power cuts with low voltage availability in the system also results in challenges to the nascent industrial sector in Kashmir, wreaking havoc with its competitiveness and growth.
