A peaceful sit-in protest was Monday organized by united resistance leadership at Madeena Chowk Lal Chowk in which hundreds of activists along with people from other walks of life participated with passion.Leaders and activist from Hurriyat (G), Hurriyat (M) and JKLF including Meraj-ud-din Kalwal, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Imtiyaz Hyder, Mushtaq Ahmad Sufi, Muhammad Sideeq Shah, Gazi Javed, Bashir Ahmad Boya and others participated in the sit-in protest.Besides, Moulana Reyaz Ahmad Shah also addressed the gathering on the occasion.Displaying placards and raising slogans in favor of ‘freedom’, unity and martyrs’ and against oppression, arrests, nocturnal raids and using black law PSA to prolong incarceration of inmates, people staged an hour long sit-in at Madeena Chowk.

According to the statement issued to KNS, JKLF spokesman said that while addressing people and media present on the occasion, various leaders said that this sit-in is a symbolic protest against ongoing oppression in Kashmir.“Today we all are protesting against the state sponsored terrorism that had been unleashed against Kashmiris by India forces and police,” leaders said. Speakers said that “to crush a people’s movement, the rulers and their authorities have unleashed a reign of terror and besides killing more than one hundred innocents, more than twenty five thousands have been injured among whom thousands are blinded by pellet terrorism of India.” They said that also more than ten thousand young and old are languishing in jails and police stations among which hundreds have been booked under black law PSA.

Speakers said that “the ill treatment meted out to incarcerated people and black laws used to prolong their incarceration speaks volumes about the Indian democracy.”Terming the recent judgments of Indian courts vis-a-vis Jammu Kashmir as ‘irreverent’, speakers said that Jammu Kashmir is an internationally accepted dispute which even has been acknowledged by the parliament of India and pledges made to Kashmiris by Indian leaders including first Indian Prime Minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru bear testimony to the fact of it being a dispute that needs a resolution.Speakers said that no parliament or court can change the status of a disputed territory by passing any law or verdict and when people of a land resolve to strive for freedom, court verdicts and laws never succeed to break their will. The peaceful protest sit-in later on ended peacefully.
