Eight members including two minors of Shopian family hit by pellets treated in hospital

Eight members of a family from Pinjora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district have fallen to pellets and are being treated in ward 8 and 16 of SMHS Hospital Srinagar, two of the wounded members are on the verge of losing eye-sight.The Dar family from Pinjora Shopian told news agency CNS that all but 2 lakh people participated in the peaceful pro-freedom rally a few days back. “The rally was peaceful while the most of the people had returned back to their houses when suddenly on the instructions of a top police official the men in uniform started showering pellets on the people. We were sitting in our home when uniformed men barged in our house and showered pellets. I as well as 7 of my family members including two children received pellets. The incident rather the attack on our house amply proves how government forces resort to violence. Who is telling you these men in uniform are security forces, they are killers,” Mushtaq Ahmed Dar admitted in ward 16 of SMHS hospital said.

“I have two nephews and both are named Irfan. They too received pellets. Besides Sameer Ahmed, Irfan was also hit in the eyes and he is being treated in ward number 8,” Dar said.Withering in pain Mushtaq identified some of the family members as Sania, Shazia Maqbool, Muhammad Umar, Sameer Ahmed and Ajaz Dar.Recounting the horror, Mushtaq said that when people were organizing a peaceful rally at Pinjoora High School Ground, the troopers after attacking the rally entered into the village and let loose a reign of terror there. “We were present in the house when men in uniform broke the gate and showered pellets upon us. It was a nightmare for us. Hit by pellets we all tried to help one another. I still remember how blood was oozing out from the eyes of little Irfan. I felt unconscious and found myself and others in this hospital,” he said.When contacted a police official wishing anonymity declined to comment on the incident. (CNS)
