Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema today said that the Punjab government is committed for promoting education from the grassroots level. He said that with an aim that maximum students clear national competitive exams, Meritorious Schools have been opened in different parts of the state and it is a matter of great pride that these schools are giving good results.Dr Cheema was in city to attend a prize distribution function organised by an NGO named Sankalp, at PU Extension Library, here today.While speaking on the occasion, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema informed that the Punjab Education Department is now providing professional guidance to students from Class 10th to Class 12th to help them to choose right career according to their aptitude. Under this plan, District Level Career Guidance Camps have been organised in all parts of the state.

While addressing the students, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was felt that students, due to lack of guidance and counselling got stuck in a career for which they do not have aptitude and they waste their education and life while pursuing wrong careers. He said that the students from class X to XII needed professional counsellors, who could determine their aptitude adopting scientific and psychological tools and guide them to choose a career for according to their aptitude and strength.He also appealed to the parents to take active interest in the counselling exercise and bring their wards for counselling. The Education Minister further said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government in the state is focussing mainly on education, health services and infrastructure. He said that there was a time when education in the state had sulked to 14th position in the country but due to good policies of the Punjab government, education in the state is amongst one of the top states of the country.

He further said that career guidance counsellors in the state have been specially trained by the Punjab government and that now, each district of Punjab will have one Career Guidance Counselling Centre each. Dr Cheema informed that the students are even sent SMS's on their mobile numbers, guiding them about career counselling.Taking an aim at the Aam Aadmi Party, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that all their misdeeds are now in open and people know their party's real face. He said that the AAP has always been neck deep in corruption and now its former state convenor Sucha Singh Chotepur has revealed the same.During today's function, a total of 150 toppers from different schools and colleges of city were honoured by the Education Minister. Mr Vijay Chopra, Editor In Chief of Hind Samachar Group, DEO (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, DEO (Primary) Mr Gurjot Singh, besides several others were also present on the occasion.
