Journalists in the Valley today held protest against the media gag that was enforced by the government for three days (till July 19).Journalists and editors/owners of valley-based newspapers held a sit-in at Press Enclave here against the gag.The protesting journalists earlier held an emergency meeting and strongly condemned the ban of the government.“The participants discussed the situation arising out of the police raids on all printing presses,” the journalists said in a statement.“The action of the government which resulted in breakdown of circulation of newspapers was strongly condemned. It is an attack on the freedom of the press and vowed to fight it back at all costs,” it said.The meeting felt that it is not possible to publish the newspapers in view of this direction of the state government.Meanwhile, newspaper editors apologized to the readers for the breakdown of the newspaper publications “which is beyond their control”.A government spokesperson told KNS the publication of newspapers and releasing news bulletin, including by KNS, has been ordered to stop till July 19 in view of the situation.
