The senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former Finance minister, Tariq Hameed Karra has said youth have a crucial role to play in changing the governance discourse and 2014 throws an opportunity for them to ensure an accountable, transparent system in the state.Addressing a public meeting at Pakherpora in Charar-e-Shareef constituency, he said youth of the state, particularly from the Valley have been pushed to the wall by the National Conference leadership, who have been exploiting them from last 40 years. On this occasion Senior party leader Gh Nabi Lone Hanjura, Er. Nazir Yatoo, Mohd Shafi , Aftab Ahmad Mir and Zone President Ab Rehman and others were also present. He said the young population have all the capabilities and energy to change the system and make their lives better provided there is strong political direction to guide them in realising their dreams.

“Over the last five years, the NC-led government has been on a war with the youth of Kashmir and it has left no stone unturned to demonize them as drug addicts, stone pelters and paid agents,” he said adding it was the PDP’s vision to give the young population their space and respect so that they could play their role in getting the state out of the mess.He said the denial of democracy is the main cause of disillusionment among the youth and it was the PDP’s vision to involve them in the larger good of the society.Speaking on the occasion, the senior party leader and former Chairman Legislative Council, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said the NC-led government has failed to come up to the expectations of the people and there was immediate need of change in the government in the state. He said the PDP during its brief tenure in the government ensured an accountable, transparent system which not only helped to mitigate the problems of people but it gave a hope that if there is a strong political will and courage to deliver things can be changed in less time.
