Pahalgam , 09 Dec 2015

Coalition of Unions held anti-govt protest in Pahalgam today demanding reconsideration of the government's decision to relocate the TRC and shift the existing centre of tourism away from Pahalgam.Hundreds of People from Pahalgam protested on the occasion and threatened to launch a protest and complete bandh of Pahalgam if the government failed to mitigate the problem especially shifting of present tourist reception centre to other side of Pahalgam. The protesters raised anti-government slogans and marched from main market to SDM's office.People of pahalgam  strongly believe that reallocation of the TRC away from its present location (where a parking has been created in place of the gutted building of the old TRC) will adversely affect the livelihood prospects of various existing players within the tourism sector, including local hotel owners, travel operators, shopkeepers, hundreds of people working in these establishments and thousands others whose livelihood is dependent on these establishments through various direct and indirect linkages.People also signed a representation urging and requesting the government to reconsider its decision to relocate the TRC and build a new building for the same at the same place where it earlier stood. The protest ended on reassurance from SDM and CEO, PDA Pahagam to the matter to higher ups in the government with a short  time frame , and if the government fails to take notice of the matter by that time, a complete bandh will be called and the responsibility for it will be the government's.
