Pakistan violates ceasefire in Jammu on Eid

Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement by opening unprovoked firing at Indian positions along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, on a day people in the state were busy celebrating Eid.Defence ministry spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS: "The Pakistan Army opened to unprovoked firing on our positions on the Line of Control (LoC) today (Saturday) afternoon in Poonch district."They are using small arms and automatic weapons. Our troops have retaliated using same calibre weapons. Firing exchanges are still going on in the area.

"Pakistan army has fired at Indian positions on the LoC on Friday also.Colonel Mehta said: "Pakistan had resorted to unprovoked firing across the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district yesterday (Friday) also. The firing started started at 9.25 p.m. yesterday (Friday)."Pakistani troops opened small arms fire on indian troops deployed in forward posts in Nowshera sector. The intermittent fire lasted till 11.55 p.m. Troops on our side of LoC retaliated appropriately." "No casualty or damage reported till last reports came in," Mehta added.Saturday's violation of the 2003 bilateral ceasefire agreement by Pakistan came on a day when millions of Muslims were celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr.
