Road safety requires a multi-pronged endeavour from various stakeholders like the transport sector, highway engineers, police, health sector, insurance sector, automobile manufacturers, legal sector, civic agencies, educational institutions, NGOs and the community at large.Expressing these views while addressing North Zone Convention on Road Safety, here today, organized by All India Motor Transport Congress and Chandigarh Transport Association, the Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki said that awareness regarding “Road Safety” needs to be spread in urban as well as rural areas. He said this will help in providing an opportunity to everyone to promote road safety in their community, school, and work place and on the roads in general.
Welcoming the transporters who came from different states, Prof. Solanki said transport fraternity plays an important role in keep on moving the wheel of the society. He said that road safety is one of the major issues and positive behavior is the only key for change in the society. He said need of the hour is to initiate collective effort which would make a significant impact on the incidence of road accidents and help mitigate the scourge of road accident related deaths and injuries.Speaking on the occasion, Prof Solanki said that it was very important to change mindset. We have to think positively that this country is ours and we have to develop it.The Governor said that your problems are the problems of the government and the government is committed to provide all basic facilities to the people of the country. He appealed to all the stake holders to join hands and heads with the Government in its effort to make roads safer and to develop a sustainable road transport system across the State. He said that effective planning and implementation of traffic rules can help curtail fatal road traffic accidents, which are claiming the precious human lives.
