The Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today ordered immediate de-silting of Flood Spill Channel to avert any future flood threat to Srinagar and its adjoining areas. The de-silting of Flood Spill Channel is being carried out by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department in a phased manner and in the first phase dredging would start on 7 Km patch from Bemina Bund to Narbal.Sukhnandan was accompanied by Minister for Information Technology, Technical Education and Youth Services and Sports, Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari.While inspecting Bemina Bund, Imam Hussain (RA) Hospital, Hamdania Colony, Hajj House, JVC Hospital, Shariefabad, Narbal and Mirgund, the Ministers directed the concerned authorities to complete the work within one month so that vast area of the Srinagar city is saved from threat of future floods.

During the visit to Imam Hussain (RA) Hospital, the Ministers instructed the authorities of Irrigation and Flood Control Department to prepare a DPR for construction of protection wall and filling of the ground of hospital so that necessary funds are arranged for the purpose.At Hajj House, the Ministers inspected earth filling work of Bund which was damaged due to September 2014 floods. They were informed that one and half kilometre has been completed so far while as the filling work on another part is in progress. They also instructed for removal of encroachments on the banks of flood channel.

The Ministers visited breach site of Flood Channel at Shariefabad also. They instructed the authorities to float tenders for construction of bridge for which a proposal for an amount of Rs 20.00 crore has already been submitted to the government for providing funds.The Ministers visited Flood Channel at Mirgund Bund also and instructed the authorities to prepare the estimates for desilting of the patch. The Ministers were apprised that the breaches occurred to the bund during floods were filled up.Secretary, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Parvaiz Malik, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control Javid Jaffar and other officers of Engineering wings accompanied the Ministers during the visit.
