Punjab to award cash prizes to medalist sportspersons

Applications invited from winners for the years 2013-14 & 2014-15

The Punjab Government will award cash prizes to more than 1000 sportspersons of Punjab who have won medals at international, national, inter-varsity and state level tournaments from the year 2010 to March 31, 2015.In a statement issued here, a spokesman of Sports Department said the Punjab government would award cash prize of Rs. 21 lakh, Rs. 11 lakh, Rs. 7 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medalist respectively to winners of official world cup and world championship. He said winners in the national games, Afro Asian games or SAF games would get Rs. 3 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively and World Cup, Asian Championship or Commonwealth championship winners would be presented Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively held at the interval of 2 years.

 Giving details he added that Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh would be handed over for gold, silver and bronze medalist respectively in the Olympic games (handicapped category), Rs. 2 lakh, Rs. 1.25 lakh and Rs. 0.75 lakh for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively in the International competitions (paralympic) and Rs. 40000, Rs. 20000 and Rs. 15000 for gold, silver and bronze medal winners respectively in the senior national competitions.All India Inter University Championship or in National Women sports festival medalists would get Rs. 15000, Rs. 12000 and Rs. 10000 for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively, national school games winners Rs. 15000, Rs. 10000 and Rs. 7500 for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively, Sarv Bharti Pendu tournament medalists Rs. 15000, Rs. 10000 and Rs. 7500 for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively. Besides, senior state tournament medalists would be handed over Rs. 4800, Rs. 3600 and Rs. 2400 for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively whereas World Veteran and Asian Veteran Championship winners Rs. 50000, Rs. 30000 and Rs. 20000 for gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.

 The spokesman said that department had already received applications from eligible players who have won medals for the year 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-2013 in different events. Besides this, applications have  been sought from medallists having achieved medals in the year 2014 and 2015 in various categories.He said the eligible players should send their applications through concerned District Sports Officer or Punjab Olympic Association (POA). Applications could also be send directly to Director Sports, Punjab at official address SCO 116-117, Sector 34 A, Chandigarh. He said players applying for cash awards would have to give an undertaking to represent the state in tournaments for next 5 years.

 He further added that Sports Department had already received list of medalists of National Games 2015 from POA. He said all other candidates must attach self attested copies of certificates issued by Indian Olympic Association or official International, National or state associations along with application in a prescribed format. It is worth mentioning here that Punjab Governmenian and Commonwealth games 2014. The cash awards for the last five years shall be given shortly by the Govt.
