Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet commissioners and representatives of employees' unions of the civic bodies of Delhi on June 1 to resolve the issue of non-payment of salaries, an official said on Monday."The chief minister said he will call a meeting on Monday (June 1) to look into the issue. All the three commissioners and all unions would be called for the meeting to look into the matter and find a solution on the ongoing problem of salaries," said an official statement here.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Kejriwal and representatives of employees' unions of the North, East and South Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD) -- under the banner of Joint Front of MCD Unions -- here Monday.Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present in the meeting.

Kejriwal informed the delegation that the Delhi government has paid its part of the amount to the corporations and the central government was yet to pay Rs.600 crore to the civic corporations."We have given all the money we were supposed to. In fact, we gave more than we were supposed to," Kejriwal said. The Delhi government had in April released Rs.226.66 crore for payment of salaries of sanitation workers of the East and North Delhi municipal corporations after protests from the civic bodies employees. However, the sanitation workers were not satisfied with the chief minister's response."Before Delhi polls, we were promised that our jobs would be regularized.

The government has failed to keep its promise and, to rub salt on our wounds, has not been able to ensure that we get our salaries on time," Rajendra Mewati, president of the Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Congress, who was part of the delegation that met Kejriwal, told IANS."We haven't been paid for the last three months... we hope the next meeting will put an end to our woes," he added. The three corporations are governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which heads the government at the Centre.
