The families of the two boys who drowned last week in Jhelum near Zaina Kadal in old city staged a protest demonstration on Friday at press enclave here, seeking government's help in retrieving their bodies.“Our children got drowned five days ago but except for first two days, none from the government is searching for them,” mother of Haseeb Hilal Bhat, one of the drowned boys, told GNS.   “Like Haseeb, Faizan (another boy) is also my son and I urge government to send drivers, army commandos, who can search beneath the water so that we consign their bodies to soil,” she said and broke down. The family members staged sit-in on Friday afternoon and they appealed government to find out the bodies.

Even as police and Marine Commandos (MARCOS) of army searched for first two days, the bodies of the boys who drowned in River Jhelum on May 10 could not be traced yet. The teenagers - Faizan of Sonwar in Uptown City and Muhammad Haseeb Hilal Bhat of Khanyar of downtown –slipped into the river at Zaina Kadal in Old City when they were trying to retrieve a cricket ball. The duo was playing on the backside of historical Pather Masjid.Following the incident, the locals along with police tried to locate the boys without any success. The police later sought the help of MARCOS of army’s 5 Rashtriya Rifles based in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
