In the start of 2024 on the 1st day of the new year, Japan was hit by a massive 7.6 earthquake and more than 100 people died and several missing after the incident. After 8 Days on January 9, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake occurred off the southern coast of the Philippines, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
No Casualties Reported By The Local Authorities Till Now
However, local authorities have not received any reports of casualties or damage. Chief Master Sergeant Ian Roy Balandan Issue The Official Statement After The EarthQuake
Chief Master Sergeant Ian Roy Balandan of the Sarangani provincial police office on Mindanao expressed gratitude, stating, "By the grace of God, it was not that strong in our province." The Philippines frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location along the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for intense seismic and volcanic activity stretching from Japan through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
While most earthquakes are too mild to be perceptible to humans, last month saw a 7.6-magnitude quake off Mindanao, briefly prompting a tsunami warning and resulting in at least three fatalities.
