Sekhon Orders 24 Hours Vigilance Of All Canals’ And Rivers’ Embankments

The Punjab Government today issued Instruction to increase the alertness at all the rivers’ and canals’ embankments during the pre monsoon and monsoon season. In a high level meeting with the senior officers of the department Irrigation Minister  Janmeja Singh Sekhon instructed the chief engineers to depute SDOs and JEs at all the sensitive place whereas Mates and Baildars would be deputed to guard the rivers’ and canals’ embankments round the clock. Disclosing this here today . Sekhon said that to assess the preparedness of the department in tackling any eventuality in the pre monsoon and monsoon season. . Sekhon instructed the Chief engineer (Drainage) to personally monitor flood works continuing in all the districts. . Sekhon asked the CE to prepare a elaborate report of all continuing flood works and send to him within in weeks time. . Sekhon said that he along with Principal Secretary would visit and monitor all the drainage sites, where the flood works were on, and if any laxity found, stern action would be taken against the erring officers.    The Minister instructed the chief engineer to apprise him about the progress maid in this regard on daily basis. Sekhon instructed the Chief Engineer (Canal) to increase the vigilance along the all embankments of river and canal. The Minister asked the Chief Enginner to make SDOs and JEs incharge of all sensitive places. He also instructed the officers to increase the alertness round the clock by deputing Mates and Baildars.These instructions were issued in a high level meeting with all the wings of irrigation departments, under the chairmanship of Irrigation Minister . Janmeja Singh Sekhon. This meeting was convened to assess the preparedness of the department in tackling any untoward situation during monsoon season.
