State Congress President Ghulam Ahmed Mir Wednesday said that the party at State level will not object, if Central Government returns the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guroo to his family. “The demand has been made by PDP and the ball is in the court of its ally BJP. If BJP is interested in returning the mortal remains of Guroo, Congress party at State level will not object the move,” Mir told CNS adding that whatever senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar confessed about Guroo was his personal opinion and Congress party don’t want to be the part of any controversy in this regard.“If BJP is really sincere and open hearted then that party should accept the demand of PDP. I don’t think BJP will agree as the matter has not been included in PDP-BJP Common Minimum Programme,” he said.Advising Abdul Gani Wakil to show maturity and maintain discipline in the party, Mir said that, “it was the decision of the party high command to appoint me as the state president. I have no grudge with anyone and I hope all the leaders and workers will cooperate with me to make party strong at gross root level,” he said.

Pertinently, senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil has shot a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi urging her to revoke the decision of appointing Mir as the State president. Vakil asserts that a person who was in prison can’t lead a party and the move would be opposed by all means. Vakil told CNS that he is mulling to resign from the party post in case the party high command did not revoke its decision.

Newly elected State Congress president said there is a need to overhaul and restructure the Congress party at State level. “To rejuvenate the party and grass root workers, Congress party will try to include new faces in the party. The door for the party is open to all and anybody can join it,” Mir said adding that Congress party will again gain the ground in the State in coming years. (CNS)
