Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder today said that the votes of the Congress supporters were being deleted from the voters’ list in all the four cities of Ludhiana, Jallandhar, Amritsar and Patiala which are going for municipal corporation polls on June 10. He said, he has been receiving scores of complaints from the party contestants that wherever the Akalis feel that Congress is going stronger they are getting the votes of the Congress supporters deleted. “The Akalis knowing well that they are losing all the four municipal corporations are now trying to win these elections by other means which we won’t allow at any cost”, he asserted. He asked the election officials not to play in the hands of the Akalis and perform their duties in a fair and impartial manner. “Let me make it clear to all those officials who are being partisan that we will ensure that law catches with them and they account for their acts of omission and commission”, he warned. In a statement issued here today, Capt Amarinder disclosed that he had been receiving reports from the district presidents of the four cities that the election officials were being hostile towards the Congress candidates. He said, in Ludhiana alone hundreds of votes of the Congress supporters were missing from the voter list. Similarly, he said, in some cases where the votes of the candidates had to be transferred from one ward to another, the election officials were not cooperating. The PCC President said that the candidates were provided with the voter lists only yesterday obviously with the motive that they are not able to get the necessary corrections done if needed. “And there are hundreds of objections which need to be corrected”, he remarked, while adding, the Akalis were trying to use extra-constitutional means to win the elections which they know they are going to lose.
