In a strategic meeting with industry partners both philanthropic and corporate, on the country’s skill development agenda, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy has asked various industries and corporations to come together to scale skilling initiatives with speed and bring about standardisation in the process of skilling. Addressing the meeting here yesterday, the Minister said, scaling skill development initiatives is one of the bigger challenges but addressing the need to assure quality while scaling up initiatives is extremely crucial. He said, in order to have a synergy between attaining scale and ensuring quality, we need resources in terms of infrastructural support, efficient credible trainers, setup for conducting sessions and so on.

The Minister said, this could be achieved as we build the ecosystem of skilling by partnering with institutions across the country and abroad. He said, it also becomes important to bring about standardisation into the processes of skilling initiatives. He further asked the different corporations and industry partners present in the meeting to step ahead and share their inputs on how they envisioned the new skill policy and what reformations they would like to recommend.

The focus of the meeting was to bring together all stakeholders of the Ministry in order to map all infrastructure across public and private sector in India and submit a detailed plan on the ways in which existing capacities could be utilised for skill development. Secretary, Shri Sunil Arora along with the heads of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) were present during the meeting with more than a hundred representatives across 30 Training Partners, 31 Sector Skill Councils and 10 Assessment agencies along with several Innovators. Some of the core areas of discussion included the challenges and opportunities in skill development and the ways in which stakeholders can leverage various synergies in the skilling ecosystem; raising resources for skilling India; rationalising skill development initiatives; the learning from the Monetary Reward Scheme and scaling up strategies. The sessions also focused on the role of Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) that would essentially imbibe the ideology of ‘for the people, of the people and by the people’.
