West Bengal Governor K.N. Tripathi Friday said he is confident that truth will be revealed in the Burdwan blast as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe. An IED explosion Oct 2 in a house in Burdwan district's Khagragarh area had killed two suspected militants and injured another. Four people including two women have been arrested by the CID which was entrusted to probe the case by the state government."The NIA has taken over the probe of Burdwan blast and I am confident it will be solved soon," Tripathi told reporters here. With the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government opposing a probe by the NIA, the central government, considering international ramifications of the case due to the alleged involvement of Bangladesh nationals, directed the central agency to take over the probe.

With West Bengal sharing border with Bangladesh, Tripathi too called for taking necessary steps in this regard."Since our state shares a large part of its border with Bangladesh, we need to be extra cautious and should take necessary and adequate steps to maintain law and order," said Tripathi.Meanwhile a NIA team during the day visited the CID headquarters here and held discussions with the top officers.

A large number of watch dials, SIM cards and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were seized from the house where the blast occurred. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have been demanding an NIA probe alleging that the Mamata Banerjee administration was trying to cover up the probe.
