Union Minister of Power and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Manohar Lal, on Saturday inaugurated a Sewing Training Centre at Chulkana village in Panipat district. The centre, along with another centre at Barana village, was inaugurated during a programme organised to promote skill development and self-employment opportunities for women and girls.

Addressing the gathering, Union Cabinet Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal said that the true essence of Antyodaya lies in ensuring the rise and empowerment of the last person in society. He said that the concept of development remains incomplete until its benefits reach the most deprived and needy sections of society.

He said that taking forward the spirit of Antyodaya, Sewing Training Centres are being established in various villages to enable girls and women to become self-reliant through skill development and employment opportunities.The Union Minister informed that a plan has been prepared to start Sewing Training Centres in 75 villages, including Chulkana and Barana. 

So far, 70 girl students have enrolled at the centre. The training programme will be conducted in two shifts of four hours each, with 35 trainees in each shift. The total duration of the training programme has been fixed at 70 days.Sh. Manohar Lal said that Sewing Training Centres have already been started in three villages, while three new centres are being inaugurated today and eight more centres have been proposed. 

He said that the objective of this initiative is to empower women by providing them skill-based training and helping them become economically independent.He said that the initiative will continue to be expanded so that opportunities for development, dignity and self-reliance reach every section of society, particularly those at the grassroots level.

On the occasion, Haryana Education Minister, Sh. Mahipal Dhanda lauded the initiative launched by Union Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal and  said that it would encourage women to take up self-employment and provide them with opportunities to become self-reliant. 

He said that the initiative would boost confidence among women and strengthen their economic condition.Rajya Sabha MP,  Sh. Sanjay Bhatia, Samalkha MLA, Sh. Manmohan Bhadana and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
