Rajya Sabha chairman and Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to two newly elected members at the Parliament House on Wednesday. The members who took the oath included Mansoor Ali Khan, elected from Karnataka and Rajnish Kumar Agrawal, elected from Madhya Pradesh.

Mansoor Ali Khan took the oath in English, while Rajnish Kumar Agrawal’s swearing-in took place in Hindi language. With the administration of the oath, both members have become formally eligible to participate in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. Mansoor Ali Khan represents the Congress party from Karnataka, while Rajnish Kumar Agrawal is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member from Madhya Pradesh.

Those participating in the swearing-in ceremony at the Parliament House were senior dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, L. Murugan, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Information & Broadcasting, Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh, along with senior officials from the Secretariat.

After taking the oath, both members pledged to discharge their parliamentary responsibilities with full commitment and devotion. Last month, many other newly elected members assumed their Rajya Sabha membership after taking the oath. They were elected to the Upper House in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections.

It was on June 29 that the Vice President, CP Radhakrishnan, administered the oath of office and secrecy to seven newly elected and re-elected members. The members who took the oath as Rajya Sabha MPs included Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanjariya and Mansinh Meraman Parmar from Gujarat, and M. Nagaraja from Karnataka.

Others who took the oath included Tarun Chugh from Madhya Pradesh, Rajendra Hiralal Jain from Maharashtra, and Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi from Manipur. Dr Alka Singh from Rajasthan was also among those sworn in as the Rajya Sabha MP.
