Kewal Singh Dhillon, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab, said during a press conference today following the joining of senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Jit Lal Bhatti into the BJP that people’s trust in the BJP is growing stronger day by day, and the people of Punjab are now viewing the BJP as a strong and reliable alternative.

Dhillon stated that on the occasion of the 187th death anniversary of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the BJP will organize 3 to 4 chhabeels (sweet water distribution camps) in each of Punjab’s 117 Assembly constituencies. He said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh set an example of inclusive, just, and people-centric governance by rising above caste divisions.

BJP is committed to restoring that same environment of good governance, development, and brotherhood in Punjab in 2027. Speaking on the proposed Hazur Sahib Act, Dhillon said that in view of the concerns raised by the Sikh community, he immediately spoke with Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

He said the Maharashtra government has assured full respect for Sikh sentiments and that a committee will be formed to review the proposed Act again. Dhillon thanked the Maharashtra government and senior minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

Expressing concern over Punjab’s financial condition, Dhillon said that the Punjab government is sinking deeper under the burden of debt. He stated that between April and June this year, approximately ₹7,800 crore in fresh debt has been taken, pushing the state’s total debt to nearly ₹4.5 lakh crore. He said that unchecked borrowing is becoming a serious threat to Punjab’s future.
