Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora today gave a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Sunam by laying the foundation stone of a 50-bed state-of-the-art Mother and Child Hospital at the Government Hospital, Sunam. He said that the hospital would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 14.48 crore.

The Cabinet Minister stated that around Rs 57 crore has been spent so far on various healthcare projects to provide better medical facilities to the people of the Sunam Assembly constituency. These include a new OPD block comprising nine rooms, a medicines warehouse, a trauma centre, and a blood bank at the Government Hospital, Sunam, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 25.5 crore.

He further informed that hospitals have also been constructed at Cheema at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore and at Longowal at a cost of Rs 11.5 crore. In addition, eight Aam Aadmi Clinics have been established at various locations in the constituency, with each clinic costing Rs 25 lakh.

Similarly, 12 Health and Wellness Centres have also been set up, each at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. The Mother and Child Hospital marks a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services for mothers and newborns.

Once completed, it will eliminate the need for people to travel to distant places or larger cities for advanced medical treatment. The hospital will feature five OPD rooms, two modern operation theatres, a three-bed normal delivery room, a testing laboratory, an ultrasound lab, a pharmacy, an ECG room, a pediatric room, an immunization room, and several other modern healthcare facilities.

In addition, the hospital will have four gynecology wards, two pediatric wards, four private rooms, three doctor stations, and five nurse stations to ensure more efficient patient care. A four-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU), a Midwifery-Led Care Unit (MLCU), and a 12-bed Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) will also be established to provide specialized treatment for mothers and newborns in critical cases.

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said that separate waiting areas for each service and a dedicated feeding unit for newborns would also be created in the hospital to ensure better convenience for patients and their families. He added that the Government of Punjab is continuously working to strengthen the healthcare sector across the state, and this hospital will prove to be a boon for Sunam and nearby areas. The project will realize the vision of “complete treatment under one roof” and provide modern, quality healthcare services to the people.

On this occasion, Deputy Director Health Madam Monica, Yadvinder Nirman, Manpreet Bansal, Sahib Singh, Asha Bajaj, Mahi Mahant, Sandeep Soni Virk Lakhmirwala, Yashpal Mangla, MC Mr. Khatak, MC Mr. Saxena, along with officials from various departments, office-bearers of different organizations, dignitaries, and a large number of local residents, were present.
