Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Government is undertaking large-scale, well-planned development works for the holistic development of the Dirba Assembly constituency to provide modern facilities to the people in every sector. Reviewing the ongoing development works during a meeting with officials of various departments at the District Administrative Complex, Sangrur, the Cabinet Minister said that development works worth Rs 308.80 crore have been completed so far in the constituency, while 709 works worth Rs 421.26 crore are currently in progress.

He said that, to strengthen road infrastructure, extensive work is being carried out in various villages and urban areas of the constituency, including the construction of new roads, repair of old roads, widening of link roads, and paving of internal streets. These works will significantly improve transportation in both rural and urban areas.

To promote sports, new modern stadiums are being constructed, existing stadiums are being upgraded, new playgrounds are being developed, and gymnasiums along with other sports facilities are being established. These initiatives aim to encourage youth to participate in sports and keep them away from drugs.

In the health sector, efforts are being made to provide better facilities through the construction of new buildings for government hospitals, health centres, and Aam Aadmi Clinics, along with renovation works, installation of new machinery, and expansion of other medical facilities. He added that healthcare services at the village level are also being strengthened.

In the education sector, special focus is being given to the renovation of school buildings, construction of new classrooms, smart classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and the development of sports grounds. This will help provide students with a better and more modern educational environment.

Apart from this, development works related to clean drinking water supply, sewerage systems, street lighting, parks, and other public facilities are also being undertaken on a large scale. The Cabinet Minister directed all officials to ensure that the ongoing development works are completed within the stipulated timeframe and that no compromise is made on quality. 

He said that strict action would be taken against officials found negligent in development works. Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Punjab Government remains fully committed to the development of every village and town in the constituency and that people’s basic needs are being addressed on a priority basis.

Those present at the meeting included Deputy Commissioner Poonamdeep Kaur, OSD to the Cabinet Minister Tapinder Singh Sohi, Improvement Trust Chairman Pritam Singh Peetu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sukhchain Singh, SDM Dirba Tarsem Chand, Assistant Commissioner (General) Rajbir Singh Bhangu, along with senior officials from various departments.
