In a decisive step towards making Punjab a drug-free state, Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat announced that the state's flagship campaign, 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' , has successfully transformed into a vibrant mass movement. Speaking at a high-level review meeting of the Ward Defence Committees, the Minister emphasized that no social evil can be completely eradicated without active public participation.
The Minister lauded the members of the Ward Defence Committees, describing them as the real catalysts in wiping out the drug menace from the grassroots level. He revealed that the initiative has generated tremendous public response, leading to over 2,500 swift and concrete law enforcement actions across the region, heavily relying on the direct feedback and information provided by these committee members.
"Our government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to completely eliminating—not just reducing—the drug problem. This is a joint venture between the public and the local administration," Mr. Bhagat said, adding that senior administrative and police officials are working in tandem with local communities to review and clean up affected areas.
Echoing the Punjab Government resolve to wipe out drugs, Senior AAP leader Nitin Kohli and Dinesh Dhall commended the tireless, round-the-clock efforts of the committee members. They reitrated that based on inputs received from the public regarding drug activities, swift action has already been taken in over 2500 critical reports signaling a decisive attack on this menance.
They further stated that Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann focusing on connecting youngsters with sports by creating top class sports infrastructure in the state. In this series, first ever asian hockey championship is also being organized. They noted that the sports has the potential to keep youngstes from the drugs.
