Keeping in view the upcoming monsoon season and the possible threat of floods, the district administration has started preparations as per the directions of the Punjab Government. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh today held an important meeting at the District Administrative Complex with administrative officers and BSF officials regarding possible flood protection arrangements.
Presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that adequate arrangements should be made well in advance to tackle any flood-like situation. He directed that all required materials and equipment should be procured beforehand so that no difficulty is faced during emergencies in the rainy season.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh directed the concerned officials to establish Flood Control Rooms at both district and sub-division levels and ensure deployment of adequate staff there. He instructed officials of the Animal Husbandry Department to ensure advance vaccination of livestock in flood-prone areas.
He also directed PSPCL officials to make advance arrangements to protect substations located in villages along the Ravi river from water damage so that uninterrupted power supply can be maintained during floods. The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials of various departments to remain fully alert in their respective areas and ensure all necessary arrangements for dealing with emergency situations.
He said that the district administration is fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the people and every possible step would be taken in this regard. He further directed Drainage Department officials to coordinate with BSF authorities and immediately address any breaches or obstructions in the river flow on a priority basis.
The concerned departments were also instructed to keep all necessary machinery and rescue equipment ready in advance and strengthen monitoring in flood-prone areas. The Deputy Commissioner stated that he would personally inspect the arrangements being made by various departments and no negligence in the work would be tolerated.
On this occasion, District Revenue Officer S. Navkirat Singh Randhawa, Deputy Commandant BSF P.K. Dwivedi, Deputy Commandant BSF R.S. Gautam, SDO PWD S. Lakhbir Singh, Dr. Puneet, Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Deputy Director Horticulture Tajinder Singh, SDO PPCB Sukhmani Singh, SDO Water Supply Rashminder Singh, District Malaria Officer Dr. Harjot Kaur, along with officials from various departments, were present.
