The Election Commission of India has announced the 3rd Phase of Special Intensive Revision on 14.05.2026 for U.T., Chandigarh. After the announcement of SIR, a team of officers from the Election Commission of India comprising Sh. Santosh Kumar Dubey, Secretary and Sh. Sanjay Kumar, Under Secretary, visited U.T., Chandigarh on 18.05.2026 and interacted with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), District Election Officer (DEO), Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to provide training and necessary guidance regarding the Special Intensive Revision process.

This was the first meeting of its kind organized in Chandigarh after the announcement of the SIR programme. During the meeting, a detailed overview and training regarding various aspects of the Special Intensive Revision were provided to the officials. The importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was highlighted during the meeting, emphasizing that electoral rolls are required to be revised as per legal provisions before every election or as and when necessary.

It was informed that SIR had been conducted eight times between 1951 and 2004, with the last exercise carried out more than 22 years ago during 2002–2004. The need for SIR was emphasized in view of issues relating to the quality of electoral rolls arising due to frequent migration, multiple registrations, non-removal of deceased voters and possible wrongful inclusion of foreign nationals, with the objective of maintaining updated and accurate electoral rolls.

The officers of the Election Commission of India also informed the participants regarding the facility for filling Self Enumeration Forms through the portal voters.eci.gov.in and when it will be enabled during Enumeration Phase, the need for mass-level publicity of the same among the general public. The detailed information regarding the enumeration schedule and related procedures was also shared during the session.

The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) apprised the visiting team about the preparations being undertaken for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision exercise, including awareness activities, coordination with Political parties and arrangements for printing of enumeration forms. All eligible electors are urged to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision process by filling the Self Enumeration Forms during the House-to-House visit by BLOs starting from 15.06.2026 to 14.07.2026 through the portal voters.eci.gov.in and extending cooperation to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other election officials during the SIR activities.
