Under the campaign “Har Shukkarvaar, Dengue Te Vaar”, teams of the District Health Department today carried out container surveys in various high-risk and other areas across the district and sensitized residents about precautions to prevent the deadly dengue fever. During the district-level campaign led by Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain, people were urged not to allow water to accumulate anywhere so that mosquitoes do not breed.

Dr. Jain visited several houses in village Barhmajra near Mohali and inspected coolers and other water containers. She also held a meeting with members of the Village Health and Sanitation Committee and sought their cooperation in the dengue prevention drive.

Dr. Jain said that with the support of village Panchayats and Committees, people in rural areas can be better educated about dengue prevention and villages can be made dengue-free. She added that although health teams are making every possible effort to prevent dengue, public cooperation is equally important.

On this occasion, District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni briefed nursing college students and other residents in detail about the symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment of dengue fever. She informed that Dengue testing and treatment are available free of cost at government health institutions.

For information, people can contact the Medical helpline number 104. Senior Medical Officer Dr. Preet Mohan Singh and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Symptoms of Dengue Fever

Dengue is a fever caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Common symptoms include severe headache, high fever, pain in muscles and joints, pain behind the eyes, and in severe cases, bleeding from the nose, mouth, and gums, nausea, and vomiting.
