A review meeting was chaired today by Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, with senior officers of Chandigarh Police and the Chandigarh Administration. Present during the meeting were IGP/UT, Sh. Pushpendra Kumar; SSP/Security & Traffic, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh; SSP/UT, Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur; SP/Headquarters & Crime, Sh. Manjeet Sheoran; SP/Cyber & Operations, Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal; Sh. Surya Chander Kant, LR-cum-Director Prosecution; Sh. C.B. Ojha, Chief Engineer; Sh. Rajiv Mehta, Chief Architect; and other officials of the Chandigarh Administration.

During the meeting, the status of implementation of the three new criminal laws in UT Chandigarh was comprehensively reviewed. The progress of ongoing infrastructure projects relating to the construction of new police stations was also reviewed. Matters relating to the creation of manpower in Chandigarh Police were also discussed.

The Home Secretary directed that focused efforts be made to further improve the conviction rate, particularly in heinous crimes, NDPS cases and cybercrime matters. Emphasis was laid on professional, evidence-based and time-bound investigations through the adoption of modern forensic and scientific tools.

Capacity-building programmes and specialized training for Investigating Officers in crime scene management, cyber forensics, digital evidence analysis and legal procedures were also emphasized. The Home Secretary further directed effective utilization of e-Sakshya for scientific documentation and digital evidence management.

Special emphasis was laid on enhancing public awareness regarding cybercrime. The Home Secretary directed that extensive awareness campaigns be undertaken and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) be put in place, while strengthening institutional capacity and specialized skill sets to effectively deal with emerging cyber threats.

Reviewing traffic management measures, the Home Secretary directed that traffic signal management systems should be more dynamically aligned with traffic volume to ensure smoother vehicular movement and reduced congestion. He also reviewed the recent implementation of body-worn cameras by the Traffic Police and emphasized their effective utilization for transparency, accountability and improved enforcement.
