The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Trade Wing and Women’s Wing, District Jalandhar, today organized a massive protest at Company Bagh Chowk against the unprecedented hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices. A large number of office bearers and volunteers participated in the demonstration, demanding an immediate rollback of the increase.

The protest was held in response to the Central Government’s decision on May 1, 2026, to raise the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹993, taking the cost to over ₹3,071 in many regions. State Secretary Harinderpal Singh Manocha criticized the Central Government for its failure to control inflation, stating that this is the third consecutive monthly hike, with prices rising by over ₹1,300 since March.

District President (Trade Wing, Jalandhar Urban) Indervansh Singh Chadha also targeted the BJP-led government, alleging failure on the economic front and pointing to the weakening of the Indian currency against the US Dollar. Leaders further highlighted that the steep increase—one of the highest in recent times—will severely impact halwais, small restaurant owners, and street vendors who are already burdened by rising operational costs.

Prominent leaders present on the occasion included Shobha Baghat (District President, Women’s Wing), and Ashwin Kohli (District President, Trade Wing Rural).

Among the Halka Coordinators present were Sumit Sharma (Central), Navneet Juneja (Cantt), Narinder Singh (West), Sukhwinder Singh (North), Charanjit Singh Purewal (Kartarpur), and Ajay Verma (Nakodar). Block coordinators and volunteers including Jagtar Singh, Vinod Kumar, Bhupinder Singh, Harjit Singh, Harneet Madhok, Gulshan Jain, Suraj, Varinder, Manvinder, Subhash, Sanjay Gill, Ajay Gill, Ankur Syal, and Rohit Gill were also present in large numbers.

“The BJP government only cares about the common man during elections. After the polls, the public is burdened with record-breaking inflation,” said AAP leadership, Jalandhar.
