Senior Congress leader and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has termed the steep increase in commercial gas cylinder prices by the BJP-led central government as a well-planned conspiracy against small traders and common people, who are considered the backbone of the country's economy.

Sidhu said that the significant hike in gas cylinder prices in a single day proves that the BJP government neither cares about small businesses nor about the kitchens of ordinary households. People who are already burdened by inflation, unemployment, and taxes are now being further oppressed by rising gas prices.

He stated that this decision is a direct economic blow to thousands of families associated with tea vendors, dhaba owners, hotel operators, bakery owners, halwai community members, and small food businesses. The impact of this hike will not remain limited to business owners but will also affect the plates of every household, children’s expenses, and overall domestic budgets.

Sidhu alleged that while the BJP government promises to reduce inflation on election platforms, in reality, it is continuously burdening the pockets of the people. Farmers, laborers, traders, and the middle class are struggling on every front, while the central government remains occupied with publicity and event management.

He said that the government should stop playing with the earnings of common people, otherwise, the Congress party will launch a large public movement across the country along with traders, youth, and the general public. The Congress will firmly oppose every anti-people policy that impacts people’s kitchens and will not allow the voice of the people to be suppressed.
