Today, senior Congress leader and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu launched a sharp attack on the Punjab government, especially the Aam Aadmi Party-led administration, stating that fearing a definite defeat in the upcoming municipal corporation elections, the government is resorting to every undemocratic tactic.

He said that the ward delimitation carried out by the government is completely flawed, non-transparent, biased, and part of a well-planned conspiracy. While Ward No. 42 has 678 votes from the general category, Ward No. 46 has as many as 7,002 votes from the SC category.

This is equivalent to strangling democracy and is a blatant violation of voters’ rights. Sidhu stated that if delimitation had been conducted honestly according to rules and laws, the city could easily have had 80 to 90 wards.

However, for political gains and to benefit its leaders, the government forcefully confined the entire area into just 50 wards. This clearly shows that the government is driven by political motives rather than administrative fairness.

He further said that continuous changes in voter lists prove that the entire process is fraudulent. The list from 15 days ago was different, it is different now, and there are talks of introducing another list soon—indicating a deliberate attempt to influence the elections.

Sidhu specifically pointed out that injustice has also been done to SC-category wards, which is highly condemnable and shows that the government is betraying every section of society. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party has manipulated ward boundaries to benefit its leaders and their family members.

He added that the Congress party has already raised objections in this matter, and if no action is taken, it will not hesitate to approach the High Court. In conclusion, he warned that no matter how much pressure tactics the government uses, the Congress party will not remain silent.

The fight for people’s rights will intensify, and the party will enter the चुनाव field fully prepared to give a strong response. He demanded that the current delimitation be immediately canceled and replaced with a new, fair, and balanced process to ensure equal rights for every voter.
