The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), organised a seminar on Cybersecurity and DoT Initiatives on 16 April 2026 at Tagore Bhawan, CDLU, Sirsa. The programme aimed to enhance awareness on cyber safety, secure digital practices, and key telecom policy initiatives among students and faculty members.

The seminar was conducted under the patronage of Prof. Vijay Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CDLU, Sh. Radhacharan Shakya, ITS, Addl. DGT, Haryana LSA, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Harish Rohil, Head of the Department of CSE.

The programme commenced with an interaction session with the Vice-Chancellor and academic leadership, followed by the opening address. Sh. Sachin Lamba, ADG (Security) conducted a dedicated session on cybersecurity, highlighting emerging threats such as phishing, digital fraud, identity theft, and social engineering attacks.

He emphasized practical preventive measures, safe online behavior, and the importance of maintaining cyber hygiene in everyday digital interactions. The session covered key themes including cybersecurity fundamentals, safe digital practices, DoT initiatives and policies, and effective protection against cyber threats. Students actively participated in the interactive discussions, gaining valuable insights into safeguarding personal data and understanding telecom governance frameworks.

The session also introduced the six components of the Sanchar Saathi portal developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for citizens. These include services such as CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) for blocking and tracking lost or stolen mobile phones, TAFCOP for checking mobile connections issued in a user’s name, reporting suspected fraud communications, citizen-centric tools for verifying mobile numbers, and mechanisms for enhancing awareness against telecom-related frauds.

The portal was highlighted as a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering users, improving transparency, and strengthening digital security in the telecom ecosystem. Sh. Shailendra Sagar, Director (Technology) conducted an insightful session focused on research and development funding opportunities, highlighting key initiatives such as the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF), the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), and other government-supported programs aimed at promoting innovation in the telecom and digital technology sectors.

He elaborated on funding mechanisms, priority research areas, and avenues for academia–industry collaboration to drive indigenous technology development. He also invited students to join hands with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) by participating as Sanchar Mitras, a citizen engagement initiative aimed at spreading awareness about telecom services and digital safety.

The benefits of joining as Sanchar Mitras—including gaining practical exposure to telecom governance, contributing to digital literacy campaigns, enhancing communication and leadership skills, and participating in nation-building efforts—were explained in detail. In his concluding remarks, Additional DGT, Haryana LSA appealed to students and faculty members to actively utilize various research and project funding avenues to contribute to India’s emerging 6G journey.

He emphasized the importance of building strong intellectual property portfolios, including Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), and stressed the need to translate research outcomes into commercially viable products and solutions. He encouraged students to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, moving beyond job-seeking to becoming job creators and technology leaders.

The session ultimately reinforced the pivotal role of youth in leveraging these opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and meaningful contributions to nation-building through advanced telecom technologies.
