On the occasion of Baisakhi, while sharing festive greetings with the residents of Ajnala, Aam Aadmi Party’s state chief spokesperson, MLA, and former Punjab minister S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal flagged off a sewerage cleaning campaign worth ₹1.21 crore to resolve the long-pending sewerage problem in the city. Dhaliwal assured residents that the campaign, initiated through the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, will be completed within the stipulated time by August 15.
Necessary directions have been issued to officials and contractors. With the use of modern machinery, the project will ensure that residents do not face such severe sewerage issues in the future.
He stated that the 52-km-long sewerage network in Ajnala had not been cleaned even once in the past 20 years during previous governments. As a result, dirty water often overflowed into streets, leading to various diseases among residents.
He added that considerable effort was required to resolve this issue due to complications created earlier. During the rainy season, sewer lines frequently got clogged, forcing residents to approach him or the municipal authorities for a solution.
Sewerage Board engineer Gurbhej Singh assured that the cleaning campaign would be carried out transparently and no negligence by the contractor would be tolerated. On this occasion, Khushpal Singh Dhaliwal, Advocate Amandeep Kaur Dhaliwal, Nagar Panchayat Ajnala President Jaspal Singh Dhillon, Urban President Amit Aul, Block President Davinder Singh Sonu, Baljinder Mahal, Shiv Chahal, Councillor Avinash, Advocate Sandeep Kaushal Gattu, Sukh Nijjar, and other dignitaries and officials were present.
Earlier, Dhaliwal paid obeisance at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji and extended greetings to the sangat on Khalsa Sajna Diwas. He also informed that in a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, under the initiative of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, amendments have been made to the law regarding disrespect of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, providing for strict punishment including life imprisonment and heavy fines. This step is expected to help curb such unfortunate incidents.
