The ASCE India Student Symposium 2026, one of the twenty-one annual regional student symposium organized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), concluded successfully at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. Co-hosted by PEC and the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), the four-day event served as a dynamic platform for technical excellence, innovation, professional development, and networking among the next generation of civil engineers.
The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 150 students who competed in five society-wide competitions. The winners of these events will have the opportunity to represent India at the ASCE finals to be held at the University of Florida, USA.
Competition Results:
1. Paper Presentation Competition: 1st Position – Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottaya, 2nd Position – VIT Vellore
2. Surveying Competition: 1st Position – VIT Vellore, 2nd Position – Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam
3. Construction Institute Competition: 1st Position – Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kerala, 2nd Position – VIT Vellore
4. Sustainable Solutions Competition: 1st Position – VIT Vellore, 2nd Position – Mukesh Patel Institute, Mumbai
5. Concrete Canoe Competition (one of the most prestigious, resource-intensive, and sought- after events): 1st Position – Mukesh Patel Institute, Mumbai, 2nd Position – Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh
The Valedictory and Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at PEC Chandigarh and graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. D.R. Prajapati (Dean, Student Affairs), Prof. S.K. Singh (Head, Department of Civil Engineering), Dr Arshdeep Singh (President, ASCE IS NR), Mr. Sandeep (Director, Mapei India), Er. Harpreet Singh (Director, ABCD India), and Er. Ashwani Kundal (Treasurer, ASCE IS).
The ceremony also featured an esteemed international presence with Er. Marsha Anderson Bomar (ASCE President 2026), Er. Tony (Burns & McDonnell, USA), Ms Jennifer Upmeyer (Manager, ASCE Headquarters), and Ms Melissa (ASCE Headquarters) are in attendance. Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu (President, ASCE IS and Symposium Chair) provided a comprehensive overview of the various events and highlighted that this was the first time the ASCE India Student Symposium was organized in North India.
Prof. S.K. Singh extended credit to all participants, sponsors, and the organising team for the event’s success. Prof. D.R. Prajapati congratulated the winners and participants while commending the efforts of the organizing team, led by Balkaran Singh.
Er. Marsha Anderson Bomar inspired the students to continue advancing innovation and ethical leadership in the global civil engineering community. Dr Saswati Datta (Co-Chair) expressed gratitude to the sponsors and the management of both host institutions for their support and permission.
Mr Balkaran Singh (Student President) delivered the formal vote of thanks, dedicating the event's success to his fellow organisers, participants, and the Civil Engineering Department. The ceremony concluded with the prize distribution, felicitation of winners, and the presentation of three special awards to Sh. Dalvir Singh, Sh. Gurshan Singh and Ms Sarita in recognition of their exemplary dedication and commitment throughout the symposium.
This successful edition marks yet another significant milestone in ASCE India’s ongoing commitment to nurturing engineering excellence among students.
