Senior Panthic leaders joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in the presence of Ashwani Sharma, Working State President, BJP Punjab, at the party’s state headquarters in Chandigarh. Prominent among those who joined were Member SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) and National Vice President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), Sardar Charanjit Singh Kalewal; National Vice President of Shiromani Akali Dal (B), Sardar Ramandeep Singh Bharowal; and second-generation Akali leader Sardar Avtar Singh Ramewal from Nakodar.

Charanjit Singh Kalewal began his political journey as Sarpanch of village Kalewal in 1998. He later served as Member, Zila Parishad (2008), Member, District Planning Board (2009), District President of SAD (B) in 2021, and has been a Member of SGPC since 2011. He was appointed National Vice President of SAD (B) in 2025.

Ramandeep Singh Bharowal started his political career with the Youth Akali Dal in 1995 and later became District Vice President, Jalandhar, SAD (B). In 2001, he joined the Lok Bhalai Party and served as its National General Secretary in 2005.

Following its merger with SAD (B), he became Vice President and, in 2026, was appointed Coordinator for three Assembly constituencies of Kapurthala district. Since 2022, he has been serving as National Vice President of SAD (B).

He was joined by Senior Vice President, Tarn Taran SAD (B), Sardar Bhupinder Singh (Tittu), and Vice President, BC Wing SAD (B), Sardar Tarsam Singh Chappri. Avtar Singh Ramewal, whose father served SAD (B) for nearly fifty years, is a former member of the Block Samiti and ex-member of the District Jalandhar Grievance Redressal Committee.

He contested the SGPC elections in 2011 against Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Wadala, securing around 7,000 votes and losing by a narrow margin. He has also served as President of Arya Education Trust, which runs several schools and colleges.

Welcoming the leaders into the party fold, Ashwani Sharma said that their experience, grassroots connect, and commitment to Panthic values would further strengthen the BJP in Punjab. He expressed confidence that their joining would help expand the party’s base and accelerate its mission of development, good governance, and service to the people of the state.
