In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with Bathinda Police, arrested two accused and recovered two illegal country-made .32 bore pistols along with magazines and four live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.

Those arrested have been identified as Jacky Kumar alias Jacky, a resident of Parasram Nagar in Bathinda and Vikas Arora, a resident of Vishal Nagar in Bathinda. The latter has a criminal background, including involvement in a domestic violence case.

 DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused were allegedly planning to rob a businessman in Bathinda. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the weapons were procured from Delhi, and further linkages are being verified, he said.

 The DGP said that further investigation is ongoing to establish forward and backward linkages in this case. Sharing operational details, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) AGTF Gurmit Chauhan said that the AGTF Bathinda team had received a reliable input  that suspects Jacky alias Jacky and Vikas Arora, who were planning to commit a robbery and are in possession of illegal weapons, were seen near Mittal Mall in the Panchwati area. 

Acting swiftly, DSP AGTF Bathinda Range Jaspal Singh shared the inputs with the District Bathinda Police, he said. Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bathinda Dr Jyoti Yadav said that in a joint operation, two individuals were seen approaching from GT Road, Bathinda. 

Upon noticing the police checkpost at Santpura road, near Sirhind canal, they attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the police party and illegal weapons were recovered, she said. In this regard, a case FIR No. 65 dated 20.03.2026 has been registered under sections 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Kotwali in Bathinda.
