Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister, Smt. Shruti Choudhry informed the House that for the remodelling and reconstruction of watercourses in lined canals across the state, it is mandatory that the watercourse should be at least 20 years old and more than 75 percent damaged. In such cases, Water User Associations are required to contribute 1 per cent of the total reconstruction cost.

Responding to a question during the ongoing Budget Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday, she further clarified that in special circumstances, watercourses older than 15 years and more than 75 percent damaged may also be considered for reconstruction.

However, in such cases, the Water User Associations must contribute 25 percent of the total project cost.]
